Carmelita and her five brothers and four sisters grew up in Cagayan Philippines. The family was farmers growing rice, tobacco, vegetables, bananas and mangos. The family was raised in the Catholic religion. She graduated from Cagayan Teachers College in 1975 and moved to Seattle in 1979. She was raised religious, but she did not have a personal relationship with Jesus. That changed when she started to attend a local Christian church in 1986.
Cliff and his five sisters and one brother grew up in South Carolina. His mother remarried when he was eight years old, and his stepfather raised him. The family was members of the local Methodist church. In the late 60’s and early 70’s, the South experienced many changes and the church played an important part in Cliff’s life; it was a place for him to get away from the “negative” and to concentrate on the “positive”. Cliff moved to Seattle in 1973 and lived with his Aunt and attended church and college.
CLIFF AND CARMELITA TOGETHER
Cliff met Carmelita in 1986 after attending church at Christian Faith Center. He initially stopped by her gift and boutique shop to purchase some items for a friend’s birthday. Cliff continued to stop by her business every Sunday after church, and then one Sunday he invited her out for lunch. Carmelita attended Christian Faith Center with Cliff in May of 1986. They dated for six months and were married on November 28th, 1986. They are born again and filled with the Holy Spirit.
HISTORY OF AGAPE CHRISTIAN MINSTRIES INTERNATIONAL
Cliff & Carmelita began talking with their pastor and church leaders about starting a church. They felt called to start a new church in South Seattle. Their pastor and many church leaders were in agreement and prayed over the Strong’s in 2006. On March 2006, the first church service of Agape Christian Ministry was held in the garage at their rental home and 15 people attended that day.
From the beginning in 2003, ACMI has sought to be a ministry that teaches the Bible and helps empower people to live God’s Word in a practical way. We have a mission and a vision to make a difference throughout our community and the world. As we continued to bring the gospel to others and serve people more effectively, the joy of being a part of God’s work in the last days will touch every one of us. We invite you to be a part of this ministry and help make a difference in our world.
